Tuesday, May 30, 2023 – Every day, students attend school hungry, without proper clothing, or without school supplies and other basic necessities – creating challenging conditions that could impact their learning and, ultimately, their future.  

More than $262,000 in emergency financial support has been provided to schools so far this year by the Thames Valley Education Fund (TVEF) – more than ever before. With the need growing every year, the collective power from our community can make a huge impact. 

This Saturday, June 3, community members from across the Thames Valley area have a chance to make a difference in the lives of these children by signing up for TVEF’s annual Walk & Run for the FUNd in support of TVEF’s Caring Fund. 

The five-kilometre, fully accessible event features food trucks, family-friendly activities, and prizes for top fundraisers.? 

“Having been a virtual event the last three years, we are so excited to be back in person,” says TVEF Executive Director Jackie Ellefsen, who thanks corporate donors Harrison Pensa and RBC Wealth Management PH&N Investment Council. 

All proceeds go toward ensuring that help is always close-at-hand for students with urgent needs, providing money for food, clothing, schools supplies and other basic necessities to allow students to focus on their education – even during a crisis.  

“It doesn’t matter how fast you can run – just that you finish, and every dollar supports the Caring Fund,” says Ellefsen. “We thank all of our sponsors and supporters for their generous support. Because of our sponsors, every dollar from registration and fundraising goes directly to students in need.” 

TVEF Board Chair David Foster understands The Caring Fund’s vital importance to TVDSB students. “In all the good it does for our students, the biggest thing is that it let’s kids focus on being kids – not the grown-up problems that life can bring,” says Foster.
